Mario Dog Costume - DIY Dog Costume Ideas for Big Dogs - Rafferty -

Your dog is headed to the Mushroom Kingdom in this Mario dog costume!

I love this Mario costume because you can dress yourself as Luigi to match your dog, or include your pup in the family costumes by having everyone dress as characters from Super Mario Bros.

Our Mario dog costume is also easy to assemble and modify. Swap out the red for green, and you’ve got Luigi.

So grab your pipe wrench and let’s-a go!

Dog Overalls

I cannot get over how cute these dog overalls are on Rafferty! They’re made for big dogs and come in several sizes, so you’re sure to find a pair that fits your dog perfectly. You’ll be putting these on your dog year-round because they are just too adorable!

Red Long-Sleeved Shirt

Next, we’ll need a red shirt to go under the overalls. Long-sleeved t-shirts work well, or even turtlenecks. These should be pretty common just about anywhere you shop.

Mario Hat

Finally, we’ll need that famous Mario hat. I’ve come across so many of these at local thrift stores! But if you can’t find one locally, they’re pretty inexpensive on Amazon.

You’ll need to add some elastic or a headband to get it to stay on your dog’s head. And be sure to stuff it with some newspaper to keep the hat puffed up so the “M” is visible.

PS: As always, please be sure to put the comfort and safety of your dog first. Ensure the clothing isn’t too tight or binding. Dogs can overheat quickly, so if the weather is too warm, don’t dress up your dog! And watch your pup for signs of stress. Some dogs will make it obvious if they hate the costume, but others might give more subtle clues like yawning, panting and pinned-back ears. Remember, a funny Instagram photo isn’t worth making your dog miserable, or worse.
