Hawaiian Luau Dog Costume - Costumes for big dogs - Rafferty - raffertypup.com

Say aloha to this luau dog costume! This Hawaiian party dog costume comes together quickly and easily and works perfectly for a big dog costume.

Grab your hula hoops and pineapples ‘cause we’re headed to Hawaii.

Luau Dog Costume Supplies

Hawaiian Shirt

We’ll start with a Hawaiian shirt. If you don’t already have one in your closet, they are usually pretty easy to find at a thrift store. You can get Hawaiian shirts made for dogs, but the sizes are generally pretty small, so for bigger dogs, you can grab this one.

Lei

Every Hawaiian outfit needs a lei. Look at your local dollar store, party store, or thrift store. Or you can order one here.

Sunglasses

Sunglasses are a must for this Hawaiian costume. Dollar stores usually have sunglasses year round, or get this colorful pair.

Use a pair of eyewear retainers to help keep the glasses on your dog’s face.

Straw Hat

Finally, add a straw hat to complete the luau dog costume. These are usually readily available at thrift stores, but if you can’t find one, you can get one on Amazon.

You may need to hot glue the hat to headband to keep it on your dog’s head.

If your dog won’t tolerate a hat, swap it for a toy ukulele (or a real one like Rafferty’s) around their neck.

And there you have it. Your dog is ready to limbo in this luau dog costume!

If you do dress up your dog in this luau dog costume, I’d love to see it! Tag @raffertypup in your photos on Instagram.

PS: As always, be sure to put the safety and comfort of your dog first. Ensure the clothing isn’t too tight or binding. Dogs can overheat quickly, so if the weather is too warm, don’t dress up your dog. And watch your pup for signs of stress. Some dogs will make it obvious if they hate the costume, but others might give more subtle clues like yawning, panting and pinned back ears. Remember, a funny Instagram photo isn’t worth making your dog miserable, or worse.
