Rafferty’s DIY doctor dog costume is perfect for big dogs. You can put this look together with just 3 items for a quick and easy dog costume.

Doctor Dog Costume Supplies

Scrub Top

We’ll start the doctor dog costume with a scrub top. The traditional color is blue, but you can choose any color or pattern you like. You can find inexpensive scrubs at a thrift store or on Amazon.

Lab Coat

Every doctor costume needs a lab coat! I lucked out and found one at a thrift store, so you can check your local shops to see what they have. If you can’t find one locally, they are readily available on Amazon. A shorter lab coat, like this one, will fit your dog better than a full-length coat.

Stethoscope

Finally, hang a stethoscope around your dog’s neck to complete the look. If you don’t have one, try this one. I was surprised at how inexpensive real stethoscopes are!

And just like that, the dog-ter is in! I wish my real doctor was this cute!

If you do dress up your pup in this doctor dog costume, I’d love to see it! Tag @raffertypup in your photos on Instagram.

PS: As always, please be sure to put the safety and comfort of your dog first. Ensure the clothing isn’t too tight or binding. Dogs can overheat quickly, so if the weather is too warm, don’t dress up your dog. And watch your pup for signs of stress. Some dogs will make it obvious if they hate the costume, but others might give more subtle clues like yawning, panting and pinned back ears. Remember, a funny Instagram photo isn’t worth making your dog miserable, or worse.
